The Gemini app
The standalone assistant, on the web and on mobile. Drafting, summarising, analysis, image understanding and generation.
It sees what you give it. Nothing about your organisation is available unless you paste it in. The business value is individual productivity, and adoption needs no project.
Gemini Advanced
The paid consumer and business tier of the app. Access to the most capable Gemini models, longer context, and Gems.
A Gem is a saved configuration. Instructions, tone, and reference material, stored under a name so a recurring task starts from the same setup every time. A team might keep one for turning research notes into a summary in the house format. It changes nothing about the model, which is exactly why anybody can create one without engineering help.
Gemini for Google Workspace
The same capability inside Docs, Gmail, Sheets, Slides and Meet. Drafting in a document, summarising a long thread, generating a slide, taking notes in a meeting.
The distinction from the app is context. It can see the document you are working in and the files you have access to, so it does not need to be told what you are doing. The business value is that adoption requires no change of habit, which is usually the largest obstacle.
Gemini Enterprise
The organisational product. It searches and reasons across a company's own systems, its documents, its data and its applications, respecting the permissions each person already has.
The exam names three capabilities. Multimodal search across company content, so a question can be answered from a slide deck or a recorded meeting as readily as from a document. Custom agent capabilities, so an organisation can build agents that act on its own systems. And the Gemini Notebook API, which brings notebook style research and grounded synthesis over a chosen set of sources into an organisation's own applications.
Choosing between them
Ask who the user is and what the assistant needs to see.
One person, general work, nothing internal, that is the Gemini app, with Advanced if they want the strongest models and Gems. Everybody, inside the tools they already use, that is Gemini for Workspace. The organisation's own knowledge, across systems, with permissions respected and agents acting on it, that is Gemini Enterprise.
The give away in a question is usually a phrase about company data or about existing permissions. Either one points at Enterprise.
