The Long-Distance Leader
About this book
Eikenberry and Turmel start from the position that leadership principles do not change at a distance, though almost every practice around them does. The book is built on a three part model covering leading yourself, leading others and getting things done, and argues that remote leaders drift towards the last of those while neglecting the first two. There are rules for remote leadership covering communication cadence, building trust deliberately, choosing technology for the message rather than for convenience, and the extra attention needed when you cannot read a room. Each chapter closes with reflection questions and a suggested action, so it works as a self paced programme. Suited to a first time remote manager or to someone whose team has become distributed around them.
