The Field Guide to Human-Centered Design
About this book
IDEO.org's guide to human centred design, written for people designing with communities rather than for consumer software, and useful well beyond that setting. It is organised in three phases of inspiration, ideation and implementation, with fifty seven methods laid out as short recipes covering interviews, immersion, analogous inspiration, sense making, prototyping and piloting. Each method states what it is for, how long it takes and what you need, which makes it genuinely practical for someone planning a week of discovery. The mindsets chapter, covering empathy, optimism, iteration and learning from failure, is the part that reads least like a checklist. Worksheets and case studies from IDEO.org projects are included.
